Pax 2 Vaporizer Review – A Masterclass in Simplicity

Ploom caught everyone’s attention with the release of the Pax vaporizer, a vape that stood out for its simplicity. It was immediately a success, and Ploom soon decided to follow it up with a new generation Ploom vaporizer, the Pax 2. On paper, the Pax 2 is little more than an improved version of the Pax.

Still, that’s saying a lot because to its fans, the Pax was near-perfect. If you loved the original for its size, then get ready to get your socks knocked off, because the Pax 2 is even smaller. Moreover, it is more powerful and smarter than its predecessor—something else for the fans to get excited about.

This review highlights the good and the bad about Ploom’s second Pax Vaporizer so that by the end of it, you will know if this is the vaporizer you need.

You would expect a device at this price point to be stable, and the Pax 2 is precisely that. Featuring a sturdy, premium build, the Pax 2 looks more expensive than it is.

Although you won’t have any problems holding on to it because it’s so small, it’s nice to have the reassurance of quality materials in case you drop it accidentally. It looks like the sort of device that can handle a lot of abuse and still come out unscathed.

It’s got a nice, solid feel that vaporizer enthusiasts will undoubtedly appreciate.

The Pax 2 comes in a neater, more compact package than its predecessor. Along with the vaporizer itself, the box contains two mouthpieces, cleaning supplies, and a magnetic charging dock.

The palm-sized vaporizer is a beauty. It is small yet elegant with a smooth chassis and a premium range of finishes (charcoal, cobalt, platinum, red). It measures 4 inches by 1 inch by 1 inch in height, width, and depth, respectively, so it is quite small.

Ploom has gone with a clean, minimalist design that leaves the sides smooth save for a sleek four-petal LED interface that serves as a battery indicator, charging indicator, and more. While charging/discharging, each of the four petals represents 25% of the device’s battery life.

On the back of the Pax 2 is a magnetic interface that connects with the charging dock.

A lot of the features you’ll find in the Pax 2 have been adapted from the original and improved upon. For instance, you get approximately 30% more battery life with this vaporizer. Similarly, despite being smaller, the vape quality of the Pax 2 is better than that of the Pax, which is also quite an improvement.

It has four temperature settings, which range from 360F to 420F. Temperatures like these are decent enough to maximize vapor production without draining the battery too quickly.

As mentioned earlier, this vaporizer is easier to clean, and that’s because it has a straight air path. Accessing this air path is easy because the vaporizer opens up on both sides. The herb chamber is also removable. Once you get it out, you can insert the cleaning brush right through the vaporizer.

Ploom has also thrown in a couple of cool LED features to spice up your vaping experience. The Pax 2 comes with Party Mode and an in-built game of Simon. How does one activate these features, you ask?

To initiate Party Mode, first ensure that you hold the vaporizer horizontally with the mouthpiece on your left then rotate the vaporizer five times. The LED “leaves” will start to pulse in different colors.

To activate the Simon game, hold it in the same position and rotate eight more times (for a total of thirteen rotations). The game has twenty levels, and you will get rewards for every level you complete.

You can select different startup tones for the device once you’ve completed all levels of Simon. Do this by holding down the power button until you enter the oven temperature menu, then clicking it five times in quick succession to select a different tone.

The Pax 2 also comes with an intuitive temperature control feature. The vaporizer automatically detects when it’s been set down and reduces the temperature output. If you don’t pick it up in a while, it powers down automatically, but if you pick it right back up, the temperature reverts to its original settings.

Vapor production is notably better on the Pax 2 than it is on the original. It is a nice improvement on Ploom’s part, one that ensures you can take direct to lung hits just as well as mouth-to-lung hits.

Charging the unit could not be easier. Just dock it to its charging station and leave the rest to it. There is a notable difference in battery life too. If you’ve used the Pax before, then you’ll appreciate the slightly longer battery life of its successor.

Not enough can be said about the vaporizer’s size, which allows you to palm it or pocket it with ease. Smart temperature control also adds a layer of safety and functionality to an already perfect device. This is, indeed, a notable improvement from the original Pax.

The Pax 2 is quite small, though you will not do well to underestimate its power or smart functionality because of it. The size couldn’t be more perfect for the vaper on the go. It’s easy to hang on to something this small and even maintain a low profile while using it.

Battery life is impressive, especially compared to the original Pax. Charging is as simple as ever, thanks to the magnetic charging dock. Its cool LED interface is both functional and aesthetic, and the inclusion of a Party Mode and the Simon Game only sweetens the pot.

Overall, the Pax 2 is as decent a vaporizer as it comes. Reliable, built like a locomotive, powerful, smart, and exceptionally tiny, this is the perfect vaporizer to take with you everywhere you go.
